| Car Pulley: Underdrive Pulley, Performance Pulley and Reduction Pulleys for Cars
Underdrive pulleys and reduction pulleys increase engine horsepower by reducing the amount of power required to drive external accessories in your car. For example, the alternator, power steering, water pump and air conditioner all rob horsepower from the engine. By replacing factory-sized crank and accessory drive pulley with a resized pulley, the accessories are slowed, resulting in more horsepower available to drive the rear wheels of your car. Using an underdrive pulley will result in better performance and better gas mileage due to the slowing of the accessories at idle and less strain on the motor when in acceleration of your car.
An underdrive pulley is a quick to install but usually best for a trained technician to install on your car for the best protection. The question is do you need more than the crank underdrive pulley? If you do lots of A/C driving in stop and go traffic you may want to purchase the alternator underdrive pulley because at idle the A/C compressor will slow causing warm air to blow which will end the second you give your car gas. The addition of the alternator underdrive pulley will keep the A/C cold at idle due to a larger alternator underdrive pulley which will give you the benefits of the smaller underdrive crank pulley. A water pump underdrive pulley maybe needed with the alternator underdrive pulley to keep a balance on the underdrive pulley system for your car. If you have a supercharged car you can change the blower pulley to cause your supercharger to spin faster giving your car more boost. An underdrive pulley is an affordable and great way to get constant horsepower, some better gas mileage, and keep your car running strong.
