Brembo Brake Systems are the highest quality brakes, brake pads, brake rotors, and kits on the market! Each Kit comes complete and will greatly enchance the performance of your vehicle. Check out Brembo's Sport Brake System, and their Gran Turismo Brake System today.
Brembo Sport Brake Systems
This High Performance Brake System consists of an integral disc, available drilled or slotted, and a complete set of high performance brake pads.
The Brembo Sport discs are premium OEM replacement units that meet or exceed all vehicle manufacturers' specifications and tolerances. They are fully compatible with stock calipers wheels and other chassis components, easily mounting onto the vehicle. The brake discs are built in high carbon cast iron and they are available either drilled or slotted. The brake discs are then plated for corrosion resistance and for a bold, aggressive appearance.
Most sport disc applications are ABE approved, a TÜV certification granted by the German Ministry of Transport. Brembo has obtained this certification due to the wholly-owned and operated integrated foundry and production process that is implemented worldwide. Sport pads come with R90 approval according to the EU requirements.
HIGH CARBON CAST IRON DISCS
High carbon cast iron guarantees top performances and less noise due to a higher damping coefficent.
TÜV/ABE CERTIFICATION
Most of the SPORT line is composed of discs with ABE approval granted by the German Ministry of Transport on TÜV certification. This is because Brembo actually develops and manufactures its entire range of brake discs in its own factories at very high quality standards ensured by stringent checks on the whole production process.
R90 APPROVAL
All the range's brake pads are approved in accordance with R90 specifications.
1. A circle surrounding the letter "E" followed by the distinguished number of country which granted the approval.
2. The number of this Regulation, followed by the letter "R", a dash and the approval number to the right of a circle prescribed before.
3. The first two digits shall indicate the series of amendments incorporating the most recent major technical amendments made to the Regulation at the time of issue of the approval.
4. The following three digits shall indicate the brake lining type.
5. A suffix of three digits shall indicate the shoe or backplate or specific dimension in the case of drum brake linings.
HIGH PERFORMANCE BRAKE PADS
The brake pads that are provided with Brembo brake systems are high performance pads that offer a very broad temperature and performance range. The pads are effective at cold temperatures as well as the higher temperatures seen during performance driving. These pads are suited to high performance street driving, at driver's schools and at club events. Please note that supplied pads do not have wear indicators to alert when the pad needs to be replaced: pads must be inspected periodically to ensure that disc damage does not result to overly worn pads.
DRILLS AND SLOTS
Both drills and slots improve braking consistency, continuously cleaning and refreshing the pad surface. These slots or drilling provide a path to disperse built-up heat and gasses that result from pads acting on the rotors, as well as help to clean and refresh the pad surface. Both help in interrupting the water film in wet driving conditions, improving the brake response; this effect is more sensitive on cross-drilled discs owing to the different full/empty ratio of the surface and the possibility to have water flowing through theholes in the ventilation gap (on vented discs). On the other hand, where extreme friction level is required, the adoption of a highly aggressive pad such as in racing applications is necessary and slots are the right solution: being the slots not all through the disc thickness, the overall mechanical resistance of the disc is higher. Additionally, all of Brembo's slotted discs are directional: the discs should be installed such that the end of the slot nearest the outer edge of the disc contacts the pad first.
Brembo Gran Turismo Brake System
This line is dedicated to the most demanding customers. This braking system originates from the Racing components, consisting of a ventilated, integral or composite disc, available drilled or slotted, 4, 6 and 8 piston aluminium calipers, a complete set of high performance brake pads, metal braid tubes and high quality small parts.
Please remember that in the European Community, Gran Turismo products may only be used in racing and on private roads, unless you have obtained a new approval in compliance with directive 98/12/EC.
1. High Performance Friction Material:
Aggressive pads that provide the highest level of performance.
2. Cross-Drilled or Slotted Discs:
Clears gasses, cleans pads for better "bite".
3. Mounting Brackets and Assembly Hardware:
Aircraft quality included and pre-torqued specifications.
4. Stainless Steel Braided Brake Line:
DOT/TÜV approved.
5. "Floating" Disc Mounting System with Billet Aluminium Hat:
Reduce "Unsprung Weight" for better handling and reduces heat-related stress; increases brake performance and pedal feel.
6. Four, Six or Eight Piston Cast Aluminium Calipers:
Provide maximum braking force without the flex of sliding calipers.
Comparison between floating 2-piece and 1-piece discs
The floating disc mounting system, due to the aluminium alloy hat, reduces the "unsprung" weight for better handling and reduces heat-related stress: the mounting system is designed to allow a specific amount of float in both radial and axial directions. Brembo has engineered special springs that are used on every other fastener in order to slightly preload the assembly. This has been done to prevent excessive noise from the system during street use. The one-piece discs (both for the Sport and GT lines) are specifically designed in the goose-neck area to minimize thermal distortion and thus disc warping under severe use conditions. The one-piece discs provide excellent stopping power ranging from everyday traffic conditions to more spirited high performance driving, and fit into the budget of any enthusiast.
Ventilation gap
It is a popular misconception that the slots or drillings in a disc determinate the direction of rotation. In truth, for an internally vented disc, the geometry of the vanes dictates the direction of rotation.
There are 3 different ventilation types in use:
· Straight vanes
· Curved vanes
· Pillars
The straight vanes and the pillars are non-directional, and can be used on either side of the vehicle. The curved vane disc, however, is directional. A curved vane disc must be installed with the vanes running back from the inside to the outside diameters in the direction of rotation. Orienting the disc in this manner, creates a centrifugal pump. The rotation of the disc causes air to be pumped from the center of the disc, through the vanes, and out through the outside diameter of the disc. This enhances the disc's ability to dissipate heat. On some OEM applications, this standard is not satisfied: the use of directional discs means to manage two codes (left and right) per axle with some extra cost therefore it happens that a car manufacturer can use the same disc with curved vanes on both sides, losing part of the benefit in balance with lower costs. |
